Evan Bianchi is a Partner at Spiro Harrison & Nelson LLC, where he serves as co-chair of the firm’s appellate practice.

An experienced appellate advocate, Evan has litigated high-stakes appeals in federal and state appellate courts nationwide. He has drafted several dozen appellate briefs and submissions and has orally argued before multiple federal courts of appeal. Evan has represented corporations, liquidators and foreign representatives, governmental entities, non-profits, and individuals in civil and criminal appeals concerning administrative law, contract disputes, justiciability, insurance coverage, environmental law, bankruptcy, sentencing, election law, and civil rights.

In addition to party representations, Evan has furthered clients’ interests on appeal by filing amicus briefs in federal circuit courts and state supreme courts, including representations of an advertising watchdog organization, an ocean marine insurance trade association, and the U.S. House of Representatives. He has also served as embedded appellate counsel, providing strategic legal advice to trial counsel before and during trial.

At the trial level, Evan has represented a diverse set of plaintiffs, including a group of term lenders in a credit agreement dispute, an RMBS securities administrator, a survivor of child sexual assault, a former employee subjected to discrimination, and individuals whose civil rights were violated. Evan has also defended manufacturers, retailers, insurers, a maritime museum, a university, and criminal defendants in a variety of cases, including several putative class actions. Evan has also provided pre-litigation counseling to clients concerning potential disputes and regulatory matters.

Outside of his practice, Evan is deeply engaged in legal scholarship and professional development within the legal community. He has published articles in the St. John’s Law Review and the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law, has spoken about the scope of the First Amendment, and has served as a moot court judge for Yale Law School’s Appellate Litigation Project and for moot court competitions. Evan is also a mentor in The Appellate Project, which focuses on empowering law students of color to pursue appellate work, and the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law Mentorship Program.

Evan graduated Order of the Coif from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where he was an Articles Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review, co-president of the Moot Court Society, and a Julius H. Miner Moot Court Competition finalist and best brief award recipient. After graduating from law school, Evan clerked for Judge William J. Kayatta, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Judge Lee H. Rosenthal of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Following his clerkships, Evan practiced at Selendy Gay PLLC and Wiggin and Dana LLP.
