On July 3, 2024, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio appointed Spiro Harrison & Nelson Partner Michelle C. Clerkin to the Direct Purchaser Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in In re Passenger Vehicle Replacement Tires Antitrust Litigation, No. 5:24-md-03107-SL (N.D. Ohio), a multidistrict antitrust class action litigation against some of the largest tire manufacturers in the world, including Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Michelin and Pirelli.
Spiro Harrison & Nelson originally filed an antitrust class action complaint against the tire manufacturers in February 2024 alleging that they colluded to artificially increase prices of new replacement tires for passenger cars, vans, trucks, and buses sold in the United States, causing purchasers to overpay for tires.
The pending multidistrict litigation follows the European Commission’s raids of large tire manufacturers in connection with suspected violations of European Union antitrust rules.
